The Eagle's Nest looms over the York River as it meanders through Bancroft. This large hill, known as a balolith, began as a single intrusion of granite into the earth's crust about 1.25 billion years ago. The softer surrounding rock has eroded away, exposing the balolith which was once 10 kilometres below the surface. Orland French photo
